When it comes to seeing beautiful, one of the most wonderful parts of what we get to do is raise awareness for, and donate to, wonderful non-profit organizations. This month's (soon to be) non-profit leaves us seeing beautiful and feeling inspired in so many ways!
Why Team Summer?
Team Summer works to empower kids with cancer by "facilitating ways for them to connect with each other for mutual help and support, and by creating the means for them to raise money to help pay for their own medical bills" (Team Summer, 2013). After spending 30 seconds on their website you understand how founder, Summer Dale, encapsulated beautiful. From seeing beautiful, to sharing beautiful, to creating beautiful, Summer's life was a testament to the power of giving and loving.  The Team Summer website reads, "Summer Dale was a 16-year-old junior at Riverwood High School in Sandy Springs, GA, where her twin brother, Jordan, still goes to school.  Her favorite hobbies were photography, modeling, and horseback riding. She was also active in her Unitarian Universalist Youth Group and had been involved in many service projects. She had a passion for animals and shared her home with five cats and two dogs. She cherished her many friends and was happiest when she was with them. In October 2011, when she was 15 years old, a persistent pain led to an MRI which revealed a rare cancerous tumor on her pelvic bone. Summer was being treated at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta and MD Anderson in Houston until she lost her battle on November 11, 2012." Summer came to understand that through sadness, beauty could prevail. She realized the community of support and empowerment that kids with cancer could have on each other - and that gift from Summer has allowed Team Summer to live as a legacy leaving thousands seeing beautiful.

How does Team Summer see & create more beautiful? While this list is by no means exhaustive, here are a few of the incredible things Team Summer is doing to empower others. They:
  • Team Summer directly connects kids with cancer;
  • Donations from Team Summer bracelet purchases directly support kids with cancer - identifying interests and needs in their lives and working to provide that little extra support reminding them to see beauty in their journey;
  • Summer met kids - in similar situations as herself - to see what she could do to bring more beauty into their lives. She wanted to make the journey they walked down a little bit easier. She wanted to use funds from Team Summer bracelets to directly help other kids with cancer, to let them know they were in this together. So Summer started talking to other kids she met in hospital waiting rooms to find out what she could do to make their journey a little easier. And then she did. Made their journey easier. More beautiful;
  • Team Summer spread like wildfire and soon Summer recognized the opportunity to grow:  "After Summer gave a gift to Josiah, a little boy diagnosed with a cancer of the nerve tissue, Josiah’s uncle told Summer he was so grateful that he wanted to sell Team Summer bracelets, too. That gave Team Summer an idea. Why not branch out, give other families the same opportunity that Summer’s family had been given? So Summer ordered the first batch of Team Josiah bracelets with the Team Summer logo stamped on the back. Next were Team Lacey bracelets.
    Now those families are selling bracelets, too – with half the money helping them with medical bills and the other half coming back to Team Summer to help other kids with cancer. And those kids are now on the lookout for other kids with cancer they can help" (Team Summer, 2013).

How will See Beautiful support Team Summer?   Great question! See Beautiful™ will donate 20% of every product SALE (not proceeds, but the ENTIRE SALE) to Team Summer throughout the month!
