September Brings SO Much Beautiful (& Pablove)!

SEPTEMBER IS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.
Consider the following*:

- Cancer claims the lives of more children each year than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis and diabetes    combined. It is the leading cause of death by disease in children and adolescents. ^
-  Each year in the United States, approximately 12,400 children and adolescents younger than 20 years of age are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 2,300 children and adolescents die of cancer each year. ^
-  One out of every 300 males and one out of every 333 females in America will develop cancer before their 20th birthday. ^
-  Childhood cancer does not discriminate, sparing no ethnic group, socio-economic class or geographic region. ^
-  About one in 500 young adults is a childhood cancer survivor. Nearly 2/3 of the survivors later experience significant and chronic medical problems or develop secondary cancers as adults that result from the treatment of their original cancer.
-  In the past 30 years ONLY ONE new cancer drug has been approved for pediatric cancer.
-  The causes of most pediatric cancers remain a mystery and cannot be prevented.
- Researchers estimate that 51% of moms and 40% of dads who have a child with cancer meet the criteria for “Acute Stress Disorder” within two weeks of the cancer diagnoses. ^^

As you can see, there's a reason there's a month dedicated to raising awareness of childhood cancer and we'll be doing a lot of seeing beautiful in raising awareness for this cause. It is because of this that we found an oh-so-wonderful foundation to be featured as our September See Beautiful non-profit: THE PABLOVE FOUNDATION!

We absolutely adore their motto, "Fight childhood cancer with love!" and fully support their mission to "fund pediatric cancer research and advances in treatment, educate and empower families and improve the quality of life for children living with cancer through hospital play, music and arts programs."

About The Pablove Foundation: The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, the son of Jo Ann Thrailkill and Jeff Castelaz and the little brother of Grady Gallagher. Pablo was six years old when he lost his valiant yearlong battle with bilateral Wilms Tumor, a rare form of childhood cancer. Imbued with his spirit and inspired by his strength, Pablove is dedicated to the daily, global fight against childhood cancer and the suffering that comes in its wake.

Here are some reasons they are so incredible:
The Pablove Foundation fights childhood cancer with love by funding research and programs designed to educate and improve the lives of children and their families.• The Pablove Foundation is a small, family-founded organization dedicated to directly funding opportunities to fight childhood cancer and the suffering that comes in its wake.
• Our signature fundraising event is Pablove Across America, an annual long-distance bike ride to raise awareness of childhood cancer and raise funds for our foundation. In 2010 Pablove Across America traveled from Seattle to Los Angeles in three weeks and raised over $800,000.
• In 2010 over one hundred family members and medical professionals gathered for our Wilms Tumor Symposium. In 2011 our annual symposium will address Childhood Cancer Survivorship.
The Pablove Foundation has funded child life programs in six US states and will expand that eleven states by the end of 2011.
Pablove Shutterbugs is an eight-week program that teaches children with cancer to develop their creative voice through the art of photography.

They're amazing, right? We are absolutely thrilled to support The Pablove Foundation throughout the month of September. See Beautiful™ is so excited to donate a portion of proceeds from every See Beautiful product sale to this wonderful organization.
