Surprises Lead to Seeing Beautiful

It's no surprise here when we say that Goose and his MOM, Michelle, from Gospel of Goose, help us See Beautiful in lots of ways. They're always sharing and creating more beautiful in the world. In the following piece, we have the honor of sharing a See Beautiful surprise that they sent to their friends at Army of Four

The following photos and excerpts are written and beautifully captured by Karen, blogger at Army of Four. We hope you enjoy the beautiful images and kindness she captured in a surprise and seeing just a little more beautiful.

I think the card and the tag and the bracelet are all so beautiful!  And what makes them so?  The fact that Goose sent them.  Such a sweet, kind gift!

You're Welcome Too

This has been passed around as an email chain for years, but upon finding it in our inbox recently, we had to share again. It's the reminder of just how beautiful our furry friends are. In honor of our non-profit of the month, BullsEye Rescue, cheers to dogs being beautiful.

Hotel Inquiry (Author Unknown)

A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote: "I would very much like to bring my dog with me.  He is well-groomed and very well-behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?"
An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who wrote: SIR: "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And, if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too."

Malibu Thomson: Love Ambassador for the Eldery is a Superhero

By day, Malibu Thomson is a Superhero. By night, she's still a superhero. When Malibu was rescued and welcomed into her current home on February 17, 2006, her beautiful owner discovered Malibu's superhero powers: bringing friendship, family, smiles, laughter, peace, and love to residents of nursing homes.

Malibu Thomson: Superhero
Malibu and her owner volunteer their time, visiting residents of nursing homes in hopes of brightening their day with a tail wag or ear rub - removing the feeling of loneliness that sadly, and often, permeates the environment in such places. Malibu sees beautiful in all she comes in contact with - she also creates beautiful with the a quick kiss and snuggle of her body.
Superheros need to be brushed too...
For almost two years, Malibu has given countless residents reasons to smile. She's prances into rooms to offer a warm body to hug, a face to smile into, and a listening ear for conversation. Sitting on laps, laying on beds, cleaning up any crumbs that might have (oh, no) fallen to the floor, sharing afternoon tea, riding on walkers and showering with kisses are but a few of the Superhero responsibilities Malibu dishes out with MVP style.
See, he really is a superhero!
Her owner captures this beauty as it comes to life on their facebook page, Malibu Thomson Love Ambassador for the Elderly. Spend five minutes on this site and you'll wish there were more kind souls like these two. They create more beautiful in the world with their wordless presence shared that offers an understanding of unconditional love and acceptance that transcends the need for explanation.

Malibu Thomson sees beautiful.
Malibu Thomson creates beautiful.
Malibu Thomson, and all his superhero traits, are beautiful.

Thank you, Malibu Thomson

Want to get to know Malibu and celebrate in the kindness she's growing around  the world? Yeah you do!

Seeing Beautiful Without Eyes

You don't need eyes to see beautiful. Let Chica, the dog in the video tell you that. Chica's eyes had to be  removed when she was a puppy. She never skipped a beat. When she's not romping up and down the hills and weaving through the barns on her family's farm, she's doing her favorite thing of all: playing fetch. As shared in the video, she's a pro. Researchers at Purdue are bewildered at this four-legged-friend's ability to, without hitch, run after the ball and retrieve it.

It begs the question (yes, pun intended): What's Chica seeing that those of us with eyes might be missing? It's certainly not darkness. It's a world full of running after your dreams with wild abandon, while simultaneously being thoughtfully aware of your surroundings. We could all take a page from Chica's playbook; do what you love and love it. Be aware of the world around you and figure out how to do the things you love weaving around the parts of life that remain fixed to their location. You can navigate that path - a path you don't even have to see.

Encore! Encore!

As you watch this beautiful golden retriever dance to the sound of the guitar strings, we hope you're reminded of sounds and rhythms surrounding you that make you smile and dance. Jam to them. Smile to them. Share them with others. Find beautiful for your ear drums and do a little dance.

(Oh, and as a side note we think Bud Light should totally be filling this doggie's treat jar. It's a nice space of free advertising for them too. Eh?)

Beauty Came Out of This Horror

One month ago today the small town of Newtown, Connecticut, and by default millions around the world were devastated. Grief. Tragedy. Sadness. Indescribable horror enveloped Sandyhook Elementary School. It is a continued thought and prayer of so many that a powerful, beautiful, ripple effect can come from such devastation and be felt in a way that gives hope to those suffering. Comfort Dogs are but one example of how "beauty came out of this horror. That's what I'm left with." Newtown High School counselor, Deidre Croce.

Old Sweater? New Bed.

We're strong believers that any time of the year can be Spring cleaning and when we came across the idea for transforming sweaters into dog and cat beds, we went searching through closets for unused apparel. Remember our non-profit from last month, The Pet Area at the Lantern House? Well, wonderful places like this exist in your neck of the woods too. Find your local pet rescues or shelters and see if you can't make a pet more comfortable one of your old sweaters. Here's a great tutorial on how to make the beds and here are precious examples of the snuggly-softness your toss-away sweater can offer:

Shake Your Tail Feathers

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it and your face will surely show it, if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.

New verse:

If you're beautiful and you know it, shake your tail feathers.
If you're beautiful and you know it, shake your tail feathers.
If you're beautiful and you know it, and your face will surely show it, if you're beautiful and you know it, shake your tail feathers.

Paying It Forward with Capturing Beautiful

This is our final Seeing Beautiful In This Moment blog hop of the year and it's one chocked full of Paying It Forward! First, here are 2 ways you can SO easily pay it forward:

1) We are so proud of the work our December non-profit, The Pet Area at the Lantern House, is doing to create more beautiful in the world. In honor of the way they are creating beautiful, we're inviting you to capture it. Throughout the month of December, when you see beautiful, snap a picture of it and send it to lcrissmays@seebeautiful.com or share it on our facebook page HERE and we'll add your picture to the growing slideshow on our homepage (and you gotta check out the beautiful photo submissions already there. It's a ton of seeing beautiful).

Here's the best part, our growing images of seeing beautiful will not only honor such special glimpses of beautiful from around the world, but we'll also be donating $2 a picture up to AT LEAST $1,000 (oh, and please share this invitation with others, the more submissions the more beautiful).

2) The beautiful Sugar the Golden Retriever  (who makes our awesome, eco-friendly See Beautiful tags) has graciously offered to donate $1 (up to $100) to the Pet Area at St. Anne's for everyone who links up to our blog hop. Isn't that BEAUTIFUL! Thank you, Sugar for your generosity.

3)All this thanks really comes back to Goose, from Gospel of Goose, and his MOM, who work tirelessly to make the Pet Area at the Lantern House an amazing place for pets and their people. Thank you to you both for the way you see and create so much beautiful in the world - without the two of you, we wouldn't have these easy-breezy ways to pay it forward and help pets coming to The Lantern House!!

Thank you, Goose!

December Brings SO Much Beautiful and LIGHT!

See BeautifulTM is thrilled to name (drumroll, please!) St. Anne's Center, The Lantern House, Pet Area as our Non-Profit of the month!

When it comes to seeing beautiful, one of the most wonderful parts of what we get to do is raise awareness for, and donate to, wonderful non-profit organizations. December's featured organization, St. Anne's Center, specifically the Lantern House Pet Area, leaves us completely inspired. Honestly, it's a perfect way to round out the 2012 year with a non-profit who's dedicated to transforming them for others! We are honored and humbled to support a beautiful organization built upon changing the way we support, love, and interact with each other and the world.

Why the Pet Area of the St. Anne's Center Lantern House?
Spend five minutes talking to the inspiring, giving, dedicated board member, Michelle Perry, and you'll understand. We learned about the Pet Area by our routine visits to Michelle's blog, Gospel of Goose. The Pet Area of St. Anne's Center, soon to be the Lantern House, is a must. The St. Anne's Center, started in 1981 by a group of like-minded people, exists to support community members with basic food, clothing and shelter. The current facility contains room for hundreds to sleep and space for even more to eat from their soup kitchen. A new center, The Lantern House, is currently under construction - which is thrilling because the new center will include (another drum roll, please) a PET AREA! The current space does not have room for pets, and by law pets are not allowed inside the Center. Michelle, one of many who spend a great deal of time making St. Anne's Center a place full of love, noticed some of the visitors to St. Anne's Center needing to keep their pets in outdoor lockers to ensure their warmth and safety through the night.
While we're hard at work supporting community members, keeping basic needs met, pets are an inextricable part of this community that cannot be ignored - and with the new Pet Center, they'll be right at home too. The new St. Anne's Center, The Lantern House, provides a beacon of light for pets and their people. The new pet area will be equipped with room for furry friends to romp around in lush grass, and sleep in heat and air-controlled kennels. Just as plans for the main building of the Lantern House reflect a great desire to make all inside feel welcome and loved, the Pet Area honors the same philosophy. Every living being should receive this comfort and acceptance and love in life.
Picture
The Lantern House. Can't you just envisions pups and their people frolicking around with acceptance, love, and happiness?
How does the Pet Area of the Lantern House see & spread beautiful?
There are so many ways we're inspired by the Pet Area and the myriad ways this space will help so many see beautiful. Here are just a few; the Lantern House Pet Area will:
  • provide a comfortable space for people to bring their pets, inspiring them to seek comfort and love themselves;
  • provide resources for pets to live comfortable, healthy, happy, belly-rubbed-full lives;
  • invite people to engage in service in their community to create more beautiful in the world; and
  • offers a community space where pets and people alike find friendship and kindness through a light of hope and a world of love.
How will See Beautiful support the Lantern House Pet Area?   Great question! See Beautiful™ donates 20% of every product SALE (not proceeds, but the WHOLE SALE) to the Lantern House Pet Area throughout the month of December!

Come find ways you can provide more service around the world and help others do the same by connecting with the amazing Lantern House, currently the St. Anne's Center, in the following ways:
  • Visit them on the web, learn more about and support their beautiful work HERE.

Pay It Forward: Be Kind Like Doggy Baby

Inherently we believe all of us seek and give kindness. We are all good. We all love. The people who see beautiful with us inspire us with the many, many ways they create more kindness and beautiful in the world. Gearing up for next month's AMAZING non-profit (we're so excited we can barely wait until tomorrow to unveil it), we're offering a sneak peek into our focus: Kindness to animals.

Source: jellysundae.tumblr.com via Anne on Pinterest

And one beautiful duo of women is spreading so much kindness to so many by their giving to support others' pets. Enter: Doggy Baby. We wrote about them when we first started See Beautiful, but their giving keeps growing and we must share again.

Doggy Baby recently donated hundreds of dollars of their amazing products to a silent auction event to support early literacy in Georgia. Doggy Baby works with rescue groups in and around the Atlanta area. Doggy Baby transports rescue dogs. Doggy Baby owns two rescues of their own. Doggy Baby is an organization we see so much beautiful in and we're incredibly proud to support. What's even better, over the next month you'll see how Doggy Baby is giving even more to our December non-profit of the month!

When we read Doggy Baby's motto, Some Babies Have Four Paws™, we knew we'd struck gold as an avenue for seeing beautiful. If your puppy (or puppies) are nearby, it's time to open the treat jar and invite them to indulge in one beautiful woman's mission to make this world a better place for our four-pawed family members.

Doggy Baby features eco-friendly and beautiful gear for your furry friends. Their intent is focusing on products that invite your puppy to travel with you, whether headed to the dog park, dinner, hiking, boating,...the list goes on and on. Is your puppy panting with excitement beside you? We were. The collapsible food and water bowls are not only sleek and practically weightless, but they are fashion-laden.

With the Doggy Baby Mission and products combined, here are some ways to see beautiful (alas, your puppies should weigh-in on this list as well. We're sure they have many puppy views of beautiful too):

  • Traveling with your pets is made easier with the Doggy Baby products. So, invite your pup to go for a ride...or walk...or jog...or swim...or drink...or.....
  • For years, research has shown that living with pets has many benefits. To name a few, they help lower blood pressure, relieve anxiety, boost our immunity and function as social butterfly (even if you're not) (Scott, 2011). With Doggy Baby bowls, the pups can wander with you longer, thus improving many facets of your own life.
  • Doggy Baby is a constant reminder that our four-legged partners have an important seat at the family table. One in which they provide insatiable love and an ever-wagging tail to brighten to mood.
Thanks for letting us share, Doggy Baby and thank you for all you do Doggy Baby!! To visit Doggy Baby click here.

Running For the Dogs to Chase Away K-9 Cancer

Logo used with permission and linked back to site.
Our See Beautiful's Featured Pet this month isn't actually a pet, but an amazing individual doing something amazing for all K9's and cancer research. After the devastating loss of his dog Zeke to cancer, Chris Laseter, set out on a mission. His mission is clear: eradicate K9 cancer. His task is beautiful: RUN 2,800 MILES from run from Atlanta, Georgia to Portland, Oregon, home of Chase Away Canine Cancer Organization. AMAZING!

Chris has chosen to run in honor, and in memory, of all those "best friends" across the country who were taken too early because of canine cancer, for those currently fighting the battle with cancer, and for those whose lives might be saved by further research.

Pay it forward. Visit Chris' site. Connect with him on Facebook. Show you support him and his mission to eliminate K9 cancer! Submit your own story and picture of your dog. Pictures will be posted on Chris' van traveling across the country with him.

Please, please pay it forward. This awareness and research is critical, as it can save lives and better instruct us on ways to treat cancer in humans - every member of our families deserves the best.

Quenching Thirst with Kindness

See Beautiful will be seeing beautiful through the end of the month while traveling (in person) through various countries. During that time, we're going back in time on the blog, back to the beginning and some of our favorite posts that our wonderful following now likely didn't get to experience. P.S., Blogger family, if we seem absent from visiting you know we'll be back soon to catch up!

6.14.11 - Thirsty?

In dog-friendly metropolitan areas it's commonplace to find dog bowls full of water outside of stores. In neighborhoods that lack retail, it is rare to find a kind soul who thinks, "In 90-degree weather, dogs walking with their owners are thirsty and I can do something about it." But on a long stretch of street, this is what we found:
One lone dog bowl, thoughtfully placed next to the sidewalk, was there to rejuvenate and it offered an opportunity to see beautiful. Providing water for passer-by dogs wasn't expected. In fact, it was the fact that the dog bowl was absent from other driveways that made it such a striking act of thoughtfulness. What's even more beautiful? When walking through the neighborhood on the equally-hot-next day, the dog bowl was there again, and this time, there was ice in the bowl. That's right, ice! The dog bowl with water was one thing, the ice, well that kindness is just beautiful! Someone wanted to make sure it was just the right temperature for our puppy companions who aimlessly try to please us in this world.

What if you did something unexpectedly nice today, for animals or humans? What if you set out a dog bowl (water or ice-filled)? Held open an elevator? Bought the person's lunch behind you in the drive through? Helped someone carry his/her groceries to the car? This list is endless. The opportunities are beautiful. There's beauty in the unexpected. Who knew an ice-filled dog bowl could help one see it and then inspire? Wow, it did.

Sleeping Beauty

It can't be easy being this precious while sleeping. And while he gets his beauty sleep, we see beautiful. It reminded us that while we're sleeping every night, the other half of the world is awake creating beautiful. What a wonderful image to process while laying our heads on our pillow. We're in good hands with millions awake who are seeing and creating beautiful for us to wake up to.

...and yes, his nose is pointed to the pillow with the word "Laughter" inscribed on it. That's what he makes us do. Laugh.

Oscar's Law

We'd like to share an official thank you to Gypsy Ju who introduced us to Oscar and the opportunity to celebrate Oscar's Gotcha Day - a day for celebrating and educating. Oscar's Law is the first ever See Beautiful's Law of the month and we are proud to support them!

Today marks the one year anniversary of Oscar's rescue, and a one year mission to have Oscar's Law to break the puppy trade passed in Australia. It is so beautiful that we'd like to have the law passed around the world to end the inhumane and unnecessary treatment of sweet puppies in "puppy factories" around the world.

While we see so, so, so much beautiful in the rescue of perfect Oscar, we also hope this is a reminder to continue working to change the climate of the hideous puppy trade. Today you can help be part of the solution and that is such a beautiful thing.
Logo linked back to site.
P.S., If you live in Australia you might also consider purchasing a limited edition bottle of wine celebrating Oscar's "Gotcha Day" from the incredible people at Goodwill Wines (check out how they see so much beautiful by giving HERE). Sidenote: We've checked to see if they send wine outside of Australia. If so, we'll be cheers-ing with some of you soon.

Duck? No. Duck? No. Goose? YES!

Goose is a dog. Goose is a smile. Goose is a laugh. Goose is love. Goose is beautiful.

The Gospel of Goose is our July See Beautiful's blog of the month and we're so honored and happy to share with others. You see, the Gospel of Goose blog offers readers the opportunity to laugh, reflect, grow, give, smile, pray, love, and repeat the process. Goose and his MOM are living a life full of adventures with moose, sneaky snakes, Bert, water (up to elbows max), church, sticks, sticks, and more sticks. Goose's voice is hilarious - both written and translated in our minds. Goose always sees beautiful, whether flooding the yard or visiting his church garden. It is difficult to recall how and when we found this blog, but somewhere between reading the blog and engaging in the blog we started to feel a little bit like Goose could feel our virtual belly rubs and we could feel his sweet puppy love. As inherent dog lovers, it's easy to be a fan of Goose's upon opening the blogosphere, but there's something really special about our four-legged-friend and that is part of the reason more people should have the treat of experiencing life through Goose (and his always-seeing-beautiful mom). Here are a couple examples of Goose seeing beautiful:
Goose, if all dogs and all blogs could share as much beautiful as you this world would never need See Beautiful - and that would be good.

This picture is for you, Goose. Love, Us ...Yes, we went old school stick chewing for you.
