Mattresses are Beautiful

Let's be honest, a good mattress is a beautiful thing. It offers a good night's sleep; respite from the busy day. A mattress can ease sore muscles and provide rejuvenation.

Thinking along nontraditional lines, a mattress can also act as a giant palette for family gatherings. Here's the recipe for a perfect family fun day:

Ingredients:
  • Your entire family in pajamas or sweats
  • Lots of soft, comfy blankets
  • Many large, fluffy pillows
  • Lots of yummy drinks and food
  • A good T.V. Show or Movie (we recommend The Wire if everyone is over the age of whatever HBO recommends).
  • Your pets
  • One or two mattresses
  • A fire in the fireplace (optional)
  • Homemade potpourri on the stove
Directions: Align mattresses in the design of your choice on the floor. Smother with blankets and pillows. Jump into blankets and pillows in your most delectable pajamas or holey sweat pants. Have someone bring you lots of drinks and food. Giggle with your family till your stomach hurts. Maybe take a nap, if everyone else has fallen asleep.

Here is a picture of what the Family Fun Recipe might look like:

P.S., Is anyone else seeing beautiful in the fact that the puppy in the pictures above is too good for the mattresses on the floor? It's as if he said, "Yeah. That's a good idea. All of you should lay on the floor. I'll take the couch." He seems mighty comfy to us though. Comfy is exactly how every dog should be.

  1. Brilliant! It reminds me of cousins pyjama parties, we would all sleep on the floor, eat biscuits and sweet, talk about love and happiness, dance barefoot and enjoy a midnight bath!
I would keep this in mind for the future when our home with me full of children I hope!

  11. I am so with you.  We landed on the well-loved old futon downstairs to watch the Giants/SF playoff game on Sunday spontaneously, and it was beautiful-our own family fun soup.  we should all learn to stop waiting for the moments and simply embrace them as they arrive.  thanks for the reminder.
btw...The Wire is one of the most brilliantly written pieces HBO has ever produced-I am a huge fan.

  12. A great way to get a mattress downstairs - sit on it and slide down!  Even better if you have two as you can sit on one and wrap yourself in the other so you can go crazy!

  13. Ahhhh!  So much beautiful here!  How much fun would it be to take this even one more step further and make a fort out of all the blankets? Then everyone huddles underneath and reads stories/books aloud?  I recommend Harry Potter -- an exceptionally fantastic read aloud book!  And how beautiful would it be if we never take the mattresses or forts off of the floor?  Why should we even have to?  Who ever decided that open spaces and empty floors were the way to go?  I say, "Mattress Floors" are the new trend.  Perhaps SB should notify some interior decorating stores about this movement?
