"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." ~ Native American Proverb
Some Pay It Forward ideas that can be implemented on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd), or today or tomorrow, or everyday thereafter from us to the earth:
- Plant a tree. Trees help to lower greenhouse gas emissions and they provide a habitat for a variety of other plants and animals. Plus, they'll be great fun for our future children to climb on.
- Reduce. Reuse. And Recycle. It's just that easy.
- Become a composter (not to be confused with a composer, but you can do that too if you wish). Check out How to Compost here!
- Plant a vegetable garden. In all seriousness, we tried this. We failed miserably. In a hopeful batch of hundreds of veggies we grew one cucumber that resembled a mini-dill pickle. It doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt it. We had fun building the garden and we have a lot of great see-beautiful laughs about anti-green thumbs attached to our hands.
- Plant flowers for a local non-profit or neighbor.
- Take a hike. No really, take one. Enjoy the great outdoors.
- Pick up trash and obviously, don't be a litter bug.
- Ride a bike. Try riding to your local Farmer's Market instead of hopping in your car to drive a mile up the road. Note: We recommend investing in a gigantic, loud, fantastic bike horn. They're loads of fun to honk while peddling down the road. Something like this will do. Bike flags are fun and practical too. We recommend something that looks like this.
- Pack a picnic and visit a local park.
- Roll around in some grass. Get horizontal with the earth and enjoy staring up at the sky.
- Skip a bath. This is tough for us to write because we're a sucker for a relaxing bubble bath, but we get it. Seize the shower.
- Pay online. Instead of mailing bills or buying products in person, save the pollution from delivering mail to the trees used in envelopes and with the click of a button save the earth. If you're really looking for anything to purchase online you can visit our eco-friendly goodness here and pay online.
- Buy eco-friendly. We have some examples HERE.
- Volunteer. If you live in the United States, you can visit the U.S. Government's website to learn about local events in your neck of the woods HERE.

I love this post! Earth Day is everyday! And, we can add one more 'R' to the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle montra. REBUY! "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rebuy" y'all!
ReplyDeleteI think you all should try another veggie garden, but plant more mature plants. I believe it would work.:)
ReplyDeleteI think more people are aware and trying to see not only beauty everywhere, but how we need to protect our world from ourselves. We are the enemy but could be the friend.
OK I am soooo Going to do the "roll around in some grass" suggestion. The bonus side of doing that is as I roll then lay on my back and look at the vastness of the beauty of the sky I get tummy rubs! How wonderfully beautiful is that? MOM and I believe that Earth Day is everyday. We are called to be good stewards of this earth and we take it seriously.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
great tips for everyday!!! happy earth day!

ReplyDeleteYes, belly rubs come to you, Goose! That is totally beautiful! Happy seeing beautiful, as always!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I don't know. That first garden really knocked the wind out of our sails. We're cool buying from local farmers who make growing veggies their life's work. We like your veggies and herbs A LOT!
ReplyDeleteDone. Rebuy is added to the list. Love it. Happy seeing beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat reminders, Lydia! Thanks for sharing! :)
