Every month See Beautiful™ features people, places, things...who knows what else...to highlight ways to see a little more beautiful in this world and to honor the beautiful work of many! Visit our website to see the "See Beautiful's" of October. If you'd like to recommend a person, place, thing, etc. for a See Beautiful feature, we'd love that!
This book is a perfect choice for our See Beautiful children's book of the month because it honors the mission of See Beautiful. The author, Patty Lovell does a beautiful job highlighting the beauty, strength, and wisdom of Molly Lou Melon (even when bullies at her new school try to tell her otherwise). Following her grandmother's advice, Molly Lou Melon chooses to believe that she should, "Walk as proudly as you can and the world will look up to you." That's important advice for all children as they grow in a world influenced by pop culture's skewed views of beauty, intelligence, and perseverance.
SIDE NOTE: The illustrations, by David Catrow, help make the book such an engaging literary score as well (as are all books he illustrates).
