I LIKE MYSELF...

November's See Beautiful Children's Book of the Month:

I LIKE MYSELF written by Karen Beaumont, illustrated by David Catrow

Picture Do you like yourself? We like you. Just the way you are.

The message beautifully repeated throughout this book is, "I like myself. I'm glad I'm me. There's no one else I'd rather be." And that's important to remember, right? As young children begin to feel the pressure of pop-culture to conform to a certain "someone" Karen Beaumont reminds us to embrace and celebrate every piece of YOURSELF instead of wish you could be like someone else. The message of the book is exemplified when simultaneously viewed with the pictures. As usual, David Catrow's illustrations have children (and adults) laughing. He makes a point with his lack of subtlety and we love that.

We wish this book could be in the personal library of every young girl. It serves a perfect reminder to LOVE YOURSELF, just the way you are.

  2. Great message for young girls - it is a difficult period in their lives when the society want them to fit in a box and a great time for them to understand they are beautiful the way they are.
