Something Beautiful by Sharon Wyeth, illustrate by Chris Soentpiet
Everyday we try to offer our humanity a little dash of seeing beautiful. We try to empower girls and women to see the inherent beauty they carry in themselves. Our See Beautiful's children's book, Something Beautiful, by Sharon Wyeth, shares this message within the beautiful writing on every single page. Just as the news is often riddled with not-so-beautiful stories, the young girl in Wyeth's book is disheartened by her surroundings, graffiti on neighborhood buildings and trash lining the streets to name a few. When she learns the word "beautiful" at school she sets out to find "something beautiful" in her world. It turns out there's a whole lot of beautiful around every nook and cranny. She learns about the beauty of friendship, community, culture, giving, and (of course) food. Beautiful means “something that when you have it, your heart is happy,” the girl thinks. In the search of "something beautiful" she discovered beautiful everywhere she looked. Even better, she was inspired to create more opportunities for others to see beautiful as well! Now, if this doesn't fit the mission of See Beautiful perfectly, we don't know what does.

ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful book. Perfect for See Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great story. MOM has to get the book. On Monday MOM and I went to our local shelter. I love going there and seeing all the kids and yes, even the dogs. Some would only see the "ugly" in a place like that, but MOM makes sure that each of those we meet there know how beautiful they are, especially the children. And you know why???? CUZ THEY ARE!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
Goose, your mom would LOVE this book! It's awesome! You're so right, sometimes we think "ugly" because society has told us to think that way. "Ugly" is the wrong word choice. There's beauty in everything we see. We have to choose the lens from which we look. Happy seeing beautiful!
