It is so very important to remind yourself of how beautiful you are
and how seeing and understanding your inherent beauty can open and free
your mind. There are many, many ways in which you can surprise yourself
with just how beautiful you really are, but we're going to focus on a
few suggestions that, if anything, will inspire you to find your own
methods of beauty-revitalisation.
Meditation and being mindful
Taking the time to meditate on a regular basis will not only calm your body, but will help free your mind of all the little niggles and worries that slow us all down, allowing you to focus on your own beauty and the beauty of everything you see.
Whether the basis of your meditation is religious, spiritual or neither of these is completely up to you but try to plan at least 10 to 15 minutes into your day where you can sit alone in a nice, quiet, safe place where you will not be interrupted. Turn off your mobile phone, your computer, your pager or anything else by which someone can contact you. Make this time your time and no one else's. It's not selfish, you deserve it.
There are many methods that can be used to meditate, however this very simple and easy to follow approach by former Buddhist monk Andy Puddicombe is an excellent starting point. Whichever method you choose, the goal is the same; mindfulness. Once in this physiological state, your conscious mind will take the backseat, giving your subconscious mind the elbow room it needs to work out the stresses and negative thoughts of the day. At this point your mind and body will focus on the present and the present only, and once your meditation is complete, you will be able to move forward, recharged and ready to see beautiful and be beautiful.
Being creative
Another excellent way to remind yourself of just how beautiful you are is to work in a creative hobby into your every day life. Whether you cross stitch on the train, doodle an amusing cartoon at work, or spend your evenings rocking out on a electric guitar, the act of creating something new from your own imagination will cause your mind to blossom. In fact, scientific research carried out at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, shows that creativity produces positive moods and vice versa.
Creativity branches out like a tree. Once the tiny seed is planted, your creativity will develop and grow strong like a mighty oak, with each branch leading you to new ways to apply your creativity to show not only to yourself, but to others, that they can see beautiful.
Appreciating the daily struggles and achievements of others
The world, while beautiful, can often be a harsh place to live in. Now more than ever we're seeing citizens of developed areas of the world sinking lower and lower in terms of positive attitude and closeness to their fellow humans. However, putting a few moments aside to think about those who have suffered, and those who have found the energy to overcome their suffering, will give you a sense of perspective and the motivation to get out there and spread the beauty around.
Pick up the local newspaper, chat with the owner of your nearest convenience store, listen to as many stories of real people as you can to discover what real beauty is all about. Perhaps you'll hear the story of a man seeing the beauty in the Florida sunshine after overcoming alcoholism, or a brave family that has finally dealt with the abrupt loss of a loved one to cancer, or perhaps a young, homeless woman that completed her studies and went to college. All of these people, and more, have struggled to find beauty in their lives and succeeded, and so can you, because you are beautiful.
So whenever you feel that you've run out of steam, take the time to pat yourself on the back and remind yourself just how beautiful you are and how you can turn your life upside down when you see beautiful.
Opening the eyes of others to the beauty that is found in everyone we
meet and everything we see is a truly wonderful gift. However, the
difficulty of maintaining such beautiful ideals in a society that pushes
a false definition of beauty can drain your body and mind of your
creative energy and can often leave you feeling down in the dumps.
