Look vs. See

The average persons has a lexicon of 15,000 words. That said, it's easy to understand how two words like "look" and "see" could get confused or the difference between the two even overlooked. On the surface, both terms involve the eyes and a sense of sight, but how both are defined is quite different. And since no two words can be defined the same way, let's dive into better understanding look and see.

 

The word look, often defined as, "turning one's eyes toward an object," describes the physical act of an individual. The word see, which dictionaries describe as, the "process of recognition" or "to come to know/discover." 

The two words also have definitions that make them unique. "Looking" can be used to describe an appearance while "seeing" is used to describe an act or a movement. Definitions quite different than the first two mentioned above, but quite fitting for the purpose of understanding where See Beautiful get's it name.

You see (pun intended), as we come to see the beauty in ourselves and around the world, it's a process to think, do, and discover. It is a movement to come to know the beauty you carry around with you each day, while simultaneously coming to better understand how to create more beauty in the world. 

Seeing beautiful isn't about looking. It's not about turning your eyes toward an object. It's about the process of focusing your mind and heart on the evolving discovery of yourself and your strengths and beauty. And that, our friends, is Seeing Beautiful. Quite different than naming our movement "Look Beautiful." Perhaps you're finding yourself grateful we knew the difference in our own lexicon too?
