Passing the Torch is Beautiful

As we celebrate the incredible work of our February non-profit, the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Educational Excellence, they've whipped up their own focus this month, "Seeing Beautiful in our Youth." It's a focus that is seminal in our community. As part of their focus, they invited women to share how they see beautiful in themselves and the world. The following reflection is brilliantly written by Tene Harris Davis. We find ourselves reveling in great hope that our future holds so much thoughtfulness and beauty. Thank you, Tene for sharing such wisdom for others on seeing beautiful.

"I see this [photograph] as beautiful because it demonstrates an act of passing the torch.  Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., took up the charge to lead when her father died.  Now that she is getting older she is now reaching out to the next generation to groom them so that this charge will not die with her as it didn’t with her father. (This picture was taken at the Commemorative Service held annually on MLK Day at the historic Ebenezer Baptist church. The student pictured is Brianna Curtis, a junior at Washington Early College.  Our Early College students were invited to participate in this service as the MLK Center attempts to reach out to youth in a way that it has not done in the past.  This is its first step.  We are proud to be a part of this effort.)" – Tene Harris Davis
